Lyrea, then and now

Lyrea

It's been an age since I've drawn this character, so I love how the more humanoid version is coming out. Thank goodness for female-anatomy-for-artists.com for the pose too! (Not linking because it edges on the not so family friendly things since the photos are for artists.) There's at least a reference of some kind of clothes to put on her...

This is from all of 2006 or so, I think. XD Meet the total fanart that Lyrea once was!

It feels like it's been *ages* since I've seen this version. XD At least her purple jeans can be kept...I'm not so certain on what that blouse ever was. We'll have to see how it all works out come the finished linework of my current version! ...How did I forget her spatula on the stretching pose though!
I mean, in 2006, I was still trying to use GIMP. A very fine program but definitely more for making 3D work than just 2D stuff. How did I even do it? Goodness knows that I don't remember, but I bet that it's still great as a free program for people to play with.

Feature 171--DTKinetic

You Just Might be Okay

This is a piece that shares the floating crystal overtop a Sim's head. Wouldn't it just be absolutely perfect if we had something to actually show us our moods; considering how difficult it can be to break through one of the worst downtimes?
And just take a look how well DTKinetic painted this. The character trapped in such darkness but the little doobob providing the light that shows the character should be okay eventually. How the character will eventually crack through this dark point. It's lovely!

Monolithic

When I saw this piece, my breath was taken from me for a moment. The city goes back into the background just perfectly, and just look at how well the city lights itself! And these two cars in the very front are perfect for such a place.
Those clouds coming up from the background were just perfect to help share the streetlight in the foreground. The lights in the buildings perfectly show the busy times and hours of a never sleeping town. Love this whole piece!

Hybrid

Just look at the gorgeous painting talent that went into this one! The colors just brought me straight in as if saying, "Welcome, friend! Kick your feet back and rest for a time." And it'd be so worth being able to get a vacation in such a place.
The cacti and palm trees in the front are gorgeous and I'm always drawn in by such a gorgeous lake; like what has been painted on the right. And getting to the town in the background would still be a lovely trip, going through the pine forest on the left while you followed an old, dirt road.

If you've enjoyed these pieces and would like to see more like them, DTKinetic's dA gallery is right here. You'll find many many more landscapes, architecture, and just so many cute characters to check out!

Feature 77--TrinityXaos2

Another GIMP user! Raise your hands in solidarity and cheer loudly!
*cough* Yes, excuse me. Need to talk about the work, not just the programs used. XD I really like the panting done with this picture. There's a word for it and right now it escapes me. The colors chosen really set up the Christmas wishes written above. And the characters' hair! I really enjoy how he made the hair on both sides look rather good in his style.
If I were to mention one tiny thing, it'd be maybe to work with the shadows a little better. (But my way of drawing and painting isn't the be-all, end-all of all painting. Plus this was done in 2019.) In all, this looks like a very cute piece and I completely enjoy it!

Mrs. Brisby and the Secret of NIMH

This is the piece that attracted me to TrinityXaos2's work and I'm so very happy that he showed it to me! In his artist comments, he says that this piece is a re-imagining of when Mrs. Brisby met Jeremy the Crow from the original show.
Also in the artist comments, he mentions what exactly he used to add these little splashes of color to the piece. So very nice of him! Thank you TrinityXaos2! What I love most about this piece is how well his textures play on each other. The way the red string is different against the log's bark, the way the log is clearly different than the grass behind and the water below. And look at how he brought attention to Mrs. Brisby! It's great and so very simple. This attention to simple details makes me love this piece and everything else he's shared with me!

We finish this feature with a Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) reference. I enjoy how well that sphere of power looks like it's been thrown from Silver's hand. Again, I have to to mention that the artist has differentiated the foreground and background on this piece. And it definitely looks like this is a section of destroyed city.
Look at Silver's fuzzy part on his chest, too. Doesn't that look just like you could run your fingers through it? (At least before Silver decides to throw you around for the offense. XD) I also love how well his eyes were shaded. Excellent work!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love and adore traditional work even when it's touched up with a digital program. Especially when it's the linework like these pieces I featured! TrinityXaos2's gallery is right here. Go check it all out!

Feature 76--MagnumRokusho

I love the characters in the background of this piece. Not only does it show what kinds of creatures that the druid is trying to make go to rest, they really do help to show some of the perspective. The spires do look to be pretty old; or damaged by the creatures, but I think I really enjoy the red on them. I like to imagine that it's a sign that the druid can see to show him where to cleanse.
Speaking of signs, take a look at the place that the druid is kneeling! That looks like an amazing place of protection and I think I like how the stones were laid around the Conjurer's mark. In all, this is an awesome piece. Excellent work!

The Glass Mayhem

I wonder if this is the same druid as before? I really like how this image is showing another of his skills, as if he's commanding glass shards to target and fly into whatever he's fighting against. I like to imagine that the one who backed him into that corner really got a taste of what a "bad idea" was before it fell to the ground, lifeless.
The glass looks like it's ready to explode once it drives itself into the enemy; so it can't be a peaceful way to go! (Then again, why should the druid be expected to be peaceful when he's being attacked?)

And the very best thing to do when being attacked by the mind is drink the juices of a fire bug. One part of me goes "yuck" and the other hopes that this stuff is going to help him out. From what MagnumRokusho wrote, this potion is going to help this druid have the energy to outlast these creatures that are after him. Here's hoping that everything turns out well for him!

The pieces that were shown to me for this feature are only a small dip into the very interesting work that was done before. So I've got to share MagnumRokusho's gallery! Just like the three pieces in this feature, the rest of their work has a bit of writing to tie all of the individual scenes together.

Memory lane!

Ever seen something that you've done in the past and just had a rush of remembering things? I did as soon as I saw this:

"Try Me"

I can't remember for the life of me how I did that lineless style (though I bet it was more work than hiding them). And I was using GIMP at the time, too.
And how in the world did I get the clothes set up like I did here? This was drawn in 2006, while I was in the midst of my Sonic fandom--evil Super Sonic was the best. STC-O, I believe. Someone correct me if I misremembered!

Lyrea has calmed down to more of a basic Chaos instead of the 'entirely evil' thing that STC-O had based the idea on. Thank goodness. I couldn't have tolerated her even myself if she had kept to that old thing. On top of the fact, she was specifically created to be weaker than Super Sonic from the comic. I can't remember how many separations the Chaos order had in my personal playing around but she was the lowest of it.
Not that much more powerful than the basic character though, her powers were nothing the most supreme so that she could be played with some friends of mine.

Gosh, it was so fun to go back down this memory. And I'm going to have to play around and create a more up to date version of her since I seem to still be playing with her.
If I come up with something, you lot will be some of the first to know. ^^
